Urethane (Bugpack) nose & girdle Tranny mounts Rancho ProStreet 4spd Trans w/ HD Side Cover, SuperDiff & Welded Gears EMPI Tall bolt-on Valve Covers (to clear ratio rockers) 2Qt deep sum (mainly to control oil windage while cornering) Crankcase setup for Full-Flow oiling using PH8A filter 9.5:1 Compression (Should run fine on 92, but will have to watch head temps - E85 is also a less attractive option) 2175cc Type 1 Motor (78.4mm stroke x 94mm bore) 1965 (European sourced so its really 1964 1/2) VW Beetle Sedan Having said that I'm hoping this project will illustrate what can be done with what essentially amounts to 1940's technology and to contrast two ways to get to the same point if readers have been following what 454bug is doing. A Super Beetle with struts, or a 67 & Later with Ball-joints up front an IRS in the rear would definetly perform better on the track. The front suspension uses torsion bars and link pins and the rear suspension is a swing axle setup.

ДЇirst, I'll absolutely concede that if I wanted to do a full-on Pro Touring Beetle, my car is probably the worst possible starting point.

While I'm not sure if this board can handle two VW project threads without someone breaking out the RAID and bug-zappers but here goes.

I know its not a big inch boosted race car, but thought if anyone would know, its the bullet.My bro jknight16 sent me links to 454bug's project thread () and it just so happens that I'm working on a car that is also basically a ProTouring 1964 1/2 Beetle, but being done the traditional way with all VW or VW Aftermarket components. Im hoping for a little real world experience from guys who have done the same. I have looked at the Trick Flow top end kits which are rated at 360hp, seen articles of a stock cam stock bottom end topped with AFR 165cc heads w 1.7RR's (and a carb intake) making 400flywheel horse, but thats online/car craft mag numbers. Would be cool to stay speed density, but tuning options are limited, so add in a few bucks for mass air swap, injectors, etc. Goal is to make 300-325 to the tire on motor. My plan is to keep stock bottom end, no fly cutting pistons, no re-rings, nada. working on a budget and don't have the $$ for a stroker motor or jumping to a 351 based build. Have a stock long block 302 w roughly 80,000 miles on it in an 88 (Speed density) Mustang, looking to make a little more steam. Have been doing a lot of reading online ( there is a lengthly thread in TOBT on fast stock block 302) and I apologize if this is something thats been beat to death here, but heres the question.
